Voices for Hospices 2007
On Friday, 5 October 2007 the choir will take part in the world’s largest simultaneous musical event and the official fundraising event for “World Hospice & Palliative Care Day”, with all proceeds going to the Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice in Glasgow.
In the late 1980s a palliative care unit on the edge of London held a concert to raise vital funds and public awareness. By October 2005 that one event had become over 500 simultaneous concerts for over 400 local hospices in more than 60 countries. Involving up to a million people each time and raising at least a pound for every one of those people, the concerts raise awareness and encourage new volunteers for each local unit involved.
“Voices for Hospices” is a UK registered charity which co-ordinates these simultaneous concerts round the globe, on the same day, once every two years. Supporters, amongst many others, include Brian Kay, Dame Judi Dench and Sir Willard White.
All money raised at individual events goes directly to the specific Hospice nominated by event organisers. Glasgow Phoenix Choir has nominated the Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice, Glasgow to receive all the proceeds from our concert.
Tickets are priced at £10.00 each, including an interval drink, and can be obtained from Choir members or the Hospice. The concert will be held at St John's Renfield church, Beaconsfield Road, Glasgow, at 7.30pm on Friday 5th October.
